This incomplete list of "Honorary Canadian Aces" is made
up of Aces who were in the RCAF at some time during WW2, like the
Americans who went to Canada and enlisted because the US hadn't entered the war yet (I've read that approximately 10% of the RCAF
enlistments when WW2 started were Americans). Johnny Johnson and Douglas
Bader however, commanded RAF "Canadian" Wings and were
given "Honorary Canadian" status by the Canadians who
served with them. In fact Johnson even wore a "Canada"
patch on the shoulder of his uniform. What's a Canerican? Well, it's like an Americanadian except a Canerican was born in Canada and moved to the States & an Americanadian was born in the US and moved to Canada ... may or may not be an actual dual citizen. I made up these words (although I probably was not the 1st to do so) for people like myself who feel equally at home in either country. Americanadians & Canericans know who they are) Also, in some cases I don't know the details of the claims (which are listed here on this page thus: destroyed, probably destroyed, damaged, then OTG stats if any) so I wouldn't fight any duels to the death over these numbers since there's just no way to be 100% sure. After all, I wasn't there. BUT, you can bet your @ss that I'm digging up more details every day! [click here to see a list of RAF & RCAF abbreviations / acronyms / slang] |
And another thing ...
If you have a photo that's better than one you see here,
or better yet, a photo you don't see here, how
about
!?!
If you have corrections/suggestions, feel free to click that link and suggest
away.
